Biographical
The Sisters of Saint Casimir is a Roman Catholic women's community founded in 1907 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, by Mother Maria Kaupas, who was born in Lithuania. Named after the patron saint of Lithuania, the community initially focused on assisting Lithuanian immigrants in the U.S. Mother Maria was recognized for her virtue by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. Today, the Sisters serve in various locations, including Illinois, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., New Mexico, and Argentina, operating institutions like Villa Joseph Marie High School in Pennsylvania and Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago, where many Lithuanian immigrants settled.
