Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross (1923-) (Merrill, WI)

 Organization

Biographical

The Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross have been an integral part of the Merrill, Wisconsin community since their arrival in 1923. They made a significant impact by establishing Holy Cross Hospital in 1926, and over the years, they've been involved in various charitable efforts, including education and healthcare. While their role in running the hospital has changed, their legacy endures through initiatives like Holy Cross High School and the Bell Tower Residence, which provides assistance to the elderly.

The sisters are truly invested in communities, sometimes affectionately referred to as "Holy Hill." Their healthcare efforts paved the way for the founding of Bell Tower Residence, which continues to support seniors today, even after the sisters sold their hospitals in 1987 and shifted their focus.

In the realm of education, they've contributed to the religious and academic growth of local children through schools like Our Lady of the Holy Cross High School. Their community service is also noteworthy; they actively volunteer at local food pantries and work with organizations like the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, as well as participating in prison ministries. Their commitment to the community remains strong, and they continue to find ways to serve and support those in need.
