John Joseph Sigstein, Father
Person
Biographical
Father John Joseph Sigstein was a man of prayer, vision, and action, driven by love and compassion for the poor and oppressed. Inspired by his sense of being part of God’s Mission and devotion to Our Lady of Victory, he founded the Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters in Chicago to address unmet needs in religious education, social services, and healthcare among the poor. The ministry called for bold women who could turn visions into action. The first two members, Julia Doyle and Marie Benes, were sent to New Mexico in 1922, and the ministry continues today.
