Mary Frances Clarke, B.V.M. (around December 15, 1802 – December 4, 1887), was an Irish nun who dedicated her life to helping others and founded the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Originally based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, her order aimed to provide educational opportunities for immigrant children. In the 1840s, the community moved to Dubuque, Iowa, where they opened prairie schools across the high plains. One of these early schools eventually grew into Clarke University. After her passing, she was honored by being inducted into the Iowa Women's Hall of Fame.
