Biographical
Sister Mary Adela (Catherine Moran) was born in County Mayo, Ireland, March 19, 1831, the daughter of John Moran and Jane Kirby. She entered the Congregation, September 6, 1856, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She received the Habit, December 8, 1856, at the Chapel of St. Teresa, Notre Dame, Indiana. On September 8, 1858, she made her Final Profession of vows. From 1861 to 1865 she served in the military as a nurse and was stationed in Paducah, Kentucky and Overton Hospital, Memphis Tennessee. She died at Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Indiana, October 17, 1906, and is interred in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Indiana. Sister Adela was assigned to Saint Mary's, Holy Cross Convent, Saint Mary's Academy, Notre Dame, Indiana; Saint Rose Academy, LaPorte, Indiana; Saint Mary's Infirmary, Cairo, Illinois; Saint Mary's Academy, Alexandria, Virginia; and Saint Joseph's Asylum, Renssalaer, Indiana. Her ministries included teaching, being dormitories, infirmarian, refectories, nursing, boarders' refectories, directress, and Superior/ Administrator.
