Sister Mary Celestine (Bridget Cavanaugh) was born in County Sligo, Ireland in August 1835 the daughter of Timothy Cavanaugh and Mary Hayes. She entered the Congregation August 15, 1855 from Troy, New York. She received the Habit April 1, 1856 and made Final Profession March 19, 1858. She died at Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Indiana September 14, 1912 and is interred in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Indiana.Sister Celestine served at Saint Mary's Academy, Notre Dame, Indiana; Saint Patrick's, Baltimore, Maryland; Immaculate Conception, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Saint Joseph's Home and School, Washington, D.C.; Saint Edward's Hospital, Mound City, Illinois --nursing in Military Service; Sacred Heart School, Ackley, Iowa; Saint Rose Academy, LaPorte, Indiana. Her ministries included being dormitories, refectories, stewardess and teacher, doing housework, knitting stockings and mending, being in charge of minims. The last five years of her life were spent as a resident/patient at Saint Mary's Infirmary, Notre Dame, Indiana.
