Biographical
Agatha Hurley, also known as Ellen, was born in Cork, Ireland. She relocated to Dubuque on December 10, 1844, when she was 21 years old. Throughout her career, she taught in Davenport and Iowa City, served as a principal in Muscatine, Iowa, and played a key role in establishing the BVM schools at Holy Family in Chicago. She also contributed to the first Rule, was nominated for Mother General, and helped build Holy Rosary in Milwaukee. She died on May 5, 1902.
