Two Molas - Cotton, Weaved Artwork Mounted in Wooden Frames
Scope and Contents
Scope and Contents:
The box contains 2 Molas that were created in Panama and brought to Victory Noll in the 1950s. They were made by Cuna Indians who live in parts of Panama.
There is a full explanation and card accompanying the framed Molas. The Molas are brightly colored with weaving of black, red, yellow, green.
A note on Molas #2 reads "Sent by Sister Dolores and Sister Carol. Embroidered by the San Blas Indians, who live in an island by the same name off the coast of Panama. The design seems to represent an Indian couple and the tree of life between them. At the time Sister Dolores brought it to Maryknoll sisters were getting one for their Mother General as a Gift."
