Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection if the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary contain materials dated from the founding of the BVMs in 1833 to the present day. Holdings include personal files of more than 2500 deceased sisters, files for more than 200 missions (primarily elementary and high schools) in 21 states and three foreign countries, manuscripts, photographs, audio‐visual materials, books, paintings, musical scores and artifacts.
BVM's special interests contain materials covering: Special Interests
1965 Selma to Montgomery March; 1958 fire at Our Lady of the Angels School, Chicago; 8th Day Center for Justice; National Farm Workers; Sister Mary Kenneth Keller, one of the first women in the United States to receive a PhD in Computer Science; Sister Carolyn Farrell, the first female mayor of the city of Dubuque.
