The tin painted caporal (foreman) came with a note card explaining: "The caporal (foreman) was the person the black slaves brought to Bolivia from African during the colonial times. The cane gave status and power to the caporal to demand more work from the slaves under him."

Archivist note: The caporal is shaped like a bull whip.
