Servite Sisters Today, bulk: Fall 2009
Scope and Contents
The Fall 2009 issue of Servite Sisters Today highlights the growth of “Servite Lay Groups”, especially the Secular Servites (10,000–15,000 members worldwide) and the newer Servite CoJourners . In “Servite Sisters Work to Stamp Out Human Trafficking,” the Sisters adopt a corporate stance against trafficking, support the Stop Trafficking newsletter, and awarded a $25,000 grant to Capacitar International. “Three Sisters—180 Years of Service (Jubilee!)” honors Sister Mary Eugenia Tremblay (70 years), Sister Mary Bernice VanderLoop (60 years), and Sister Cecilia Fandel (50 years). The “In Memoriam” section remembers Sister Martha Kormendy (1927–2009) and her decades of ministry. Additional features include “And The Award Goes To…” recognizing Sisters Cecilia Fandel, Mary Dominica Effertz, and Casimira Benbenek, and “Casey at the Convent,” sharing a physical therapy intern’s positive experience living with the Sisters.
